Naturopathy Explained
Naturopathy or Nature Cure is underpinned
by a fundamental principle vis medicatrix
naturae. "The healing power of nature".
It represents a system of health care which
encourages and promotes the body's natural
healing mechanism using an eclectic approach.
Over 2,500 years ago Hippocrates stated "Health
is an expression of an harmonious
balance between various components of man's
nature, the environment and ways of life... nature is the physician of disease".
Other key principles of naturopathy
include;
- prevention is better than cure
- underlying cause of dysfunction is identified
and treated
- the whole person is treated physically, mentally,
emotionally and spiritually and it is the
person treated not the disease
- health is much greater than just the absence
of disease - it should be abundant vitality
- everyone is individual and responds in a
different way
- disease is a disruption of homeostasis
- ailments should not be suppressed
- symptoms are there for a reason and are manifestations
of the body's healing ability
- encourage and empower individuals to take
responsibility of their own
health
