Rachel qualified as a Pilates Foundation instructor at the Scott Studio in Somerset. She first became interested in Pilates while training to become a professional dancer and later decided to take this further, qualifying under the instruction of Suzanne Scott and achieving full mat work membership.
“I was fascinated by the stability and strength Pilates gave me as a dancer and soon realised how beneficial this type of exercise can be to everybody. I teach mat work classes suitable for all levels of fitness and I am able to draw upon my movement background to add an imaginative and balanced approach to my lessons.”
Rachel’s classes at Mendip Complimentary Health have gone from strength to strength, this is now our most well attended therapy. Rachel’s attention to detail and consistant approach is second to none.
Georgie Barnes is a fully Comprehensive Pilates Foundation Teacher who trained with Rachael Rafifar in Derby.
I first found Pilates when I broke my back and had a series of on going problems with my spine. The surgeons were unsure where to go with me but the Body & Mind Studio in Derby took me on and the difference in just 2 months was amazing! It was after this experience that I was hooked and decided if Pilates can do this for me, I would like to be able to help others. I took my matwork exams and then carried ontraining for another year to work more with rehabilitation, working with studio equipment and focusing on sports specific pilates.
“I am walking proof that pilates helps the body regain strength and ability to return to normal life and sports.”
I used to compete internationally at Three Day Eventing at 3* level and still ride and teach. This has enabled me to devise a Rider Specific Programme. This helps with correct position, ability to sit level in the saddle which enables the rider to give correct aids. The difference with my existing clients is amazing.
“My position and posture on my horse has greatly improved since doing pilates with Georgie, which has greatly improved my dressage scores. I really enjoy her teaching as she always adds a new challenge so theres no chance of getting bored.” Rosie Acton.
I also specialise in pilates for children from 12 years upwards encouraging them to gain a strong core to help them with sports and reduce their likelihood of injuries. They love it!
The idea of pilates helping people whether it is to improve posture, gain strength, tone the body, gain better times in other sports or ability to perform is one I strongly subscribe to. Pilates is for everyone and my lessons are for all levels and abilities. I am an enthusiastic teacher with a sound comprehensive knowledge.
