How Reflexology works

It is a natural balancing treatment based on the science that there are reflexes in the hands and feet which correspond to every part of the body.

Reflexology works on a holistic level, treating the body as a whole (as opposed to treating isolated symptoms) to reduce stress and tension (approximately 75% of today's diseases can be attributed to this)

Drawing on a detailed knowledge of human anatomy and physiology areas of congestion are detected, these may be manifesting as physical or emotional issues. Specific thumb and finger techniques are used to work the reflexes, this improves blood supply and promotes the unblocking of nerve impulses. In turn this increases available oxygen and stimulates the body's own natural healing.
Reflexology can help

  • Balance the body's delicate energies
  • Remove physical and emotional blockages
  • Reduce stress in the body helping relieve;
    • Headaches
    • Back/neck and shoulder pain
    • Fatigue
    • Depression
    • Allergies
    • IBS
    • Menstrual problems
And much more!

What to expect during a treatment

After the initial consultation which will be used to build up a picture of past and present health issues, a record of size, shape, temperature, colour and any dry areas will be taken. The treatment will then begin using the thumbs and fingers to work the feet. Treatments usually last around 45 minutes.

How many treatments will you need?

Everybody responds differently to reflexology, often there are immediate improvements. However 3-4 treatments would see a more significant benefit.

Most conditions require a course of 6 treatments, usually weekly. This will build up the body and hopefully prevent symptoms from reoccurring.

A treatment once a month can then maintain a feeling of wellbeing. Reflexology can be used as a preventative measure.

Aftercare advice

After a treatment you may feel
  • Warm and relaxed
  • Sleepy or energised
  • Shivery or hot due to blood pressure changes as your body re-adjusts
Occasionally some of the following reactions may be experienced
  • Change of sleep pattern
  • Runny nose or cough
  • Skin rash
  • Increased perspiration
  • Flare up of a condition as it heals
This is due to the body healing itself and eliminating toxins.

All these reactions should be experienced temporarily and clear up within 24 hrs. these are a positive indication that the body is responding to the treatment received.

Drink 6-8 glasses of water in the following 24 hrs.
Try to avoid alcohol and caffeine
